She was employed as a house mother at overend road children's home in Whitehaven, Cumbria from late summer 1976 until December 1976. She was about 23 years old . She had fair hair and a heavily freckled complexion. She was slim, about size ten. She was from Gosforth, Cumbria and her family were of a high standing in the community and lived in a big detached house with its own drive. She drove two cars, a morris minor and a fiat 500. In the social services records the assistant director says that after they spoke to people who were close to her they concluded she was “Emotionally Unstable”. And she had a prior record of this sort of behavior. Shortly before she left her position at the children's home she fractured her wrist quite badly. In the social services records there is a yearly report from a social worker that says “Michael had a sexual relationship with a former house mother” I was 14 years old. There has been an eight month investigation by the Police, who had to discontinue the file because Cumbria County Council refused to give up the identity of the house mother. Why are they protecting this woman? I believe it is because of the high standing of her parents in the community. All I want is justice. The abuse I suffered has affected my mental health my whole life. The Police want to talk to this woman and the council are using the fact that I do not know her identity, to ignore my claim. I also brought this to the attention of the local council and adult social care ombudsman but the outcome was the same, the Council refused to reveal her name. I will also be posting this leaflet on my facebook page and on several blogging sites, someone in Whitehaven knows who she is. I will also be taking an add in the whitehaven news to coincide with the distribution of this flyer.
